Tucked into a small corner of Kingston’s Sovereign Centre is one of Jamaica’s best kept (but growing) secret. Morgan’s Creek is the brainchild of Joni-Dale Morgan, a trained aesthetician whose hand-made offerings are designed to test the will power of any product junkie.
Although the Morgan’s storefront is new to Kingston, the brand goes as far back as 2015. Using inputs sourced within Jamaica, the bath, skin and bodycare guru is committed to helping her customers look, feel and smell good.
BASHY spoke with the young entrepreneur to learn a bit more about the inspiration behind her brand, working with fellow creatives, and what it means to take a leap of faith.
BASHY Magazine: Tell us a little bit about the creative mind behind Morgan's Creek.
Joni-Dale Morgan: I love challenges, and I love making things and seeing people's face light up. I also get bored easily, so trying new things and creating new items excites me.
What did your career look like before you started Morgan’s Creek?
I went to the Yvonne Anthony School of Aesthetics located in Ocho Rios, where I learned the manufacturing process of my products. In this day and age where Google and YouTube have tonnes of information, adding my own sparkle to the products was self-taught. I have a Bachelors in Business Management from Northern Caribbean University and Masters in International Management from the University of London. I have also worked with my parents for over 20 years in their business, which gave me the experience I need in running a successful business.
What inspired you to start your business?
My business was formed because I suffer from an autoimmune disease called Lupus. I had to change my skincare products as chemicals became too much for my skin to handle. I have a friend who is in the [same] type of business as well, and she got me started on my skincare journey.
What would you say is the brand’s philosophy?
For our customers to feel and smell good in their natural skin. When you have no makeup or clothes on, you still feel amazing butt-naked.
How would you describe your business?
We cater to anyone who is looking for more natural type of products but wants to smell great as well. So, we have a wide range of customers from babies to adults.
