Uprising: Jamaica

The first iteration of Uprising: Jamaica has arrived!

BASHY's commitment to creating space for Jamaican creatives doesn't stop with the production of our issues. We want to equip current and the upcoming generation of creatives with the tools that they need to monetize their talents. We're welcoming content creators, photographers and writers who want to gain freelance print and publishing experience to our inaugural, specialized, one-day Uprising incubator program.

You will learn practical skills to pitch your work to major publications and learn about the formal editorial process. At the end of this skills-based incubator program, participants will leave with a pitch they can send to an editor of a publication of their choice. Our current venue is small so limited spots are available. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply below.

The application takes 15 to 20 minutes to complete so we recommend you review the requirements and questions and draft your response in a separate document before filling out the online form.

The window to apply opens from February 28-March 7th, 2019. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance into the program on the morning of the March 8th. The program takes place on Saturday, March 16th before the Buju show (it will run from 10 AM - 3 PM), so you’ll have enough time to get ready if you plan to be in attendance, however, due to a high demand, we may run the program the following weekend. Please choose your preferred date while applying.

Uprising will be lead and has been curated by BASHY Magazine’s Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Sharine Taylor, who has written for various music and culture publications including The FADER, Noisey, Pitchfork, Hazlitt, BuzzFeed, Complex, and others.
